Ex-Army Medical Corps commandant Ulasi passes on at 83

The family of a former Corp Commandant of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and School, retired Brig.-Gen. John Nwagbo Ulasi, has announced his death at the age of 83.

The family stated that the retired soldier died after a brief illness.

In a statement at the weekend for the entire family, the first son of the late octogenarian, Kingsley Ulasi, described the late Brigadier-General as a distinguished and decorated retired military officer.

The statement noted that the late military general, who was born into the family of the late Chief Joshua Chigbo Ulasi (Oji Ukwu Eje Aba) and the late Mrs. Mercy Ulasi of the Ezenwa Royal Family, Ndimgbu Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State, on March 14, 1941, died on January 21, 2025.

The family said the late officer had a distinguished military career spanning over 23 years during which he served the nation with honour and distinction.

The statement said: “He rose to the peak of his military and medical careers, having served as the Commandant of 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital at Yaba in Lagos; Commandant of 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna; and Corps Commandant of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and School.
