The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife branch on Monday called for unconditional release of Dr Femi Omisore of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning who was kidnapped by some gunmen in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.

The chairman of the OAU branch of ASUU, Dr Caleb Aborisade, who spoke during a telephone interview with journalists in Osogbo on Monday, said that members of the union arrived at the demand after an emergency congress held that day on the issue of the kidnapped lecturer.

He maintained that the union was not ready to pay any ransom to the gunmen who abducted Omisore

While sympathising with the family of Omisore’s driver who was shot dead by the gunmen who kidnapped his boss in Ado Ekiti on his way to Oye Ekiti to attend a ceremony, ASUU implored the abductors to release their member without any condition.

According to Aborisade, “ASUU held an emergency congress on Monday on the issue of Dr Omisore who was kidnapped.  We condemn the killing of the driver and the abduction of Dr Omisore.

“We sympathise with the family of the driver and we are demanding the unconditional release of Dr Omisore.”

Similarly, the management of the university also joined ASUU in demanding for the unconditional release of the lecturer.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, said this in a separate interview with Nigerian Tribune.
