The Osun State House of Assembly has charged the state Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, to check all arms of government in the state and find out ways to reduce unnecessary spending associated with governance.
The assembly made the disclosure yesterday at a plenary to mark the 24th creation anniversary of the state.
The House expressed worry over high rate of partisanship among civil servants, saying this negates the the ethics of their job.
The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon.Najeem Salaam, who is the convener of the plenary, said, “The waste in government must be reduced to minimal level so that we will focus on things that will improve the social benefit for our people.
“Political functionaries and technocrats must be called upon to look into this and be ready to develop the state together. It is a collective responsibility that we must all join hands to achieve.
“Also, the attitude of our workforce and their orientation has to be changed. The rate of partisanship of workers has become a thing of worry. The ethics of civil service that they should not be partisan seems to have faded out. Workers express their feeling on pages of newspapers and radio, just like members of political parties,” he said.
The speaker charged government to remain focused in the development of rural areas as done in urban areas.
“We cannot neglect a major segment of the state and said we are developing. The present administration is doing its best to develop the rural areas, but we must improve on it further.
“The Federal Government should complement the efforts of Osun government for further development, because the state is even embarking on federal projects here”, he stressed.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Akintunde Adegboye and other members of the House had commended the successive administrations, especially the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led government for the roles they have played in the development of the state since its creation.
In their separate contributions, Honourables Dejo Osuolale (Boripe/Boluwaduro), Abiodun Awolola (Egbedore), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye (Obokun) Ajibola Akinloye (Ola-Oluwa), Kamil Oyedele (Irepodun/Orolu) and Babatunde Olatunji (Ife North), among others, charged government to brace up for challenges ahead to achieve the vision of the founding fathers.
