The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been urged to mete out strict disciplinary action to Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama for his irresponsibility. The disciplinary committee of the NFF is scheduled to meet today in Abuja to decide the goalkeeper’s fate, who could be banned for playing for Nigeria again.
Sam Audu in his opinion about the Enyeama/NFF saga suggested that the Federation have to put their foot down as regards discipline in the various national teams by coming down hard the goalkeeper’s conduct recently.
In the wake of their 2015 Afcon qualifying game with Chad, the Lille FC shot-stopper publicly questioned the safety of Kaduna to host the recent AFCON qualifier against Chad. He went further by tearing the query handed to him with the belief that he is untouchable.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick described his comments as “provocative” and “careless”.
And Enyeama will then go on to dramatically tear the query issued him right before the NFF general secretary.
“Super Eagles players have long been pampered and the result is that the NFF have created monsters, who are now turning around to eat them up,” Audu wrote in africanfootball.com.
He added: “The scandalous bonus rows at last year’s World Cup in Brazil and that which almost caused the country to miss out on the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup are still very fresh in our memories.
Without discipline and commitment, the desire to reorganise the Super Eagles will be an exercise in futility.
The NFF must therefore make it very clear who is in charge here by slamming Enyeama hard on Tuesday when he appears before the disciplinary committee.
This country made Enyeama who he is today and he must now be brought down from his high horse and made to know in very clear terms he is not above the country and laid down rules.
It would be recalled that coach Samson Siasia shut out Enyeama leading up to the decisive 2012 AFCON qualifier at home against Guinea. Nigeria eventually did not get the win they needed to qualify for the 2012 AFCON after Enyeama’s replacement Dele Aiyenugba was beaten twice in a 2-2 draw in Abuja.
