Two Soldiers Feared Killed, Three Injured in Terrorist Ambush in Sokoto

Two Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed while three others sustained injuries after terrorists ambushed troops responding to an attack in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident was reported by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, which cited security sources familiar with the operation.
According to the report, the attack occurred at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday when troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division, stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Tidibale, were deployed to Tagirke village following intelligence about a terrorist attack.
The soldiers were said to have confronted the assailants in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat from the community.
However, while returning from the operation, the troops reportedly ran into a carefully laid ambush by the fleeing terrorists.
During the encounter, one of the military gun trucks allegedly drove over an improvised explosive device (IED), triggering an explosion that resulted in casualties.
According to the report, two soldiers died in the blast, while three others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
The remains of the deceased personnel were reportedly evacuated to the mortuary of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, while the injured soldiers were taken to the 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment.
The report added that the damaged military vehicle was later recovered and towed back to the Forward Operating Base in Tidibale.
Security forces have since intensified operations in the area to track down the attackers, recover any missing weapons and sustain ongoing offensives against terrorist groups operating in the area.
The Nigerian Army had not officially commented on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
