Stephen Keshi’s new first assistant will be announced next week Sports Hallmark scooped.
At the signing ceremony with Stephen Keshi last week, the Nigeria Football Federation had refused to announce assistants to Keshi, who enters a fresh 2-year contract.
One of the top choices to assist Keshi, Salisu Yusuf, is in London where he is undergoing a refresher course.
Yusuf, a former Enyimba and Kano Pillars coach, is not new to the Super Eagles setting, having worked as one of the assistants to Samson Siasia during his time in charge of the team.
He was also named amongst the ‘consortium’ of coaches appointed by Amaju Pinnick after Keshi was temporarily sacked last October.
Feelers emanating from the Glass House indicate that Daniel Amokachi will not be keeping his place although the NFF has kept sealed lips to the issue of Amokachi, who Keshi want to be sacked.
“There won’t be any elaborate ceremony, just an announcement and that will be it. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this will happen in May but no specific date yet,” a source said.
Meanwhile, there has been reports that former international, Sylvanus Okpala will return as one of Keshi’s assistants.
Okpala, a former Nigeria international was Keshi’s second assistant when Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013, but was dismissed shortly afterwards for what the then NFF board termed ‘gross insubordination’.
