No fewer than 14 people were killed while 48 others injured  when an explosion hit members of a local security group that protects civilians against insurgents in Monguno Borno State on Wednesday.

A source told Hallmark News that the incident occurred  when members of the security group were on their way to deliver recovered explosive devices to the bomb disposal unit at a military base.

A senior staff at the state-run Maiduguri General Hospital said they received the bodies of the 14 deceased early Wednesday.

“We are still treating 48 victims of the incident, some in terrible conditions,” added the source.
