Violence in Nigeria will reduce if peace is restored in Libya – Buhari

Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari has noted that the rising spate of violence in the country and other parts of Africa will reduce if peace is restored in Libya.

Buhari who spoke while receiving letter of credence from the Libyan ambassador to Nigeria, Ayad Musbah Faraj Attayary, at the State House, Abuja, said early return of stability in the North African country was imperative to stability on the continent, and that Nigeria will make efforts in that direction.

“Our efforts should be directed towards the restoration of peace. It is expedient that peace and stability return to Libya as soon as possible; peace in Libya will translate to economic prosperity and development as well as a more secure Africa,” he said.

“With more commitment from all parties in the conflict and other well-meaning individuals, the North African country will soon be back as it was so that it can resume its roles in Africa.”

The Ambassador conveyed greetings of the Prime Minister of Libya, saying his country was counting on Nigeria to use its position in Africa to help it tackle it’s security challenges.

The ambassador praised Buhari for “consolidating Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa through its intervention activities.”

Buhari also received letters of credence from the ambassador of Venezuela to Nigeria, Davies Nieves Velasquez. He Buhari Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro for his commitment to democracy and for leadership.

In his own remarks, the ambassador thanked President Buhari for his show of support and solidarity to the government of Venezuela and expressed the need to take bilateral cooperation between the two countries to the next level.

He extended the invitation of his Maduro to President Buhari to visit Venezuela.
