Sanlam Allianz takes financial literacy campaign to Lagos markets
Sanlam Allianz has taken its financial literacy campaign drive straight to the heart of Lagos’ popular markets, equipping traders and small business owners with practical skills to save, plan and grow their income.
A statement signed and delivered by the Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager of the company, Mr. Bankole Banjo, confirmed this development.
According to the statement, the campaign was aimed at aiding the financial knowledge and management of traders, shop owners, among others in popular markets in Lagos. Planned for two phases including a physical market activation across organized market associations in both Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island; as well as a radio programme debuting on two high listeners-hip radio stations in January 2026.
Tunde Mimiko, MD/CEO, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, said: “Ours is not your every-day insurance company, we pride ourselves as a protection organization with a suite of solutions that empowers generations to be financially prosperous, secure and confident.
“We all agree that no one can aspire to financial confidence without basic knowledge of how finances work vis-a-vis budgeting, investing, retirement planning, income protection and, of course, the place of insurance in all these. This is what we are bringing to these markets: an educative session on how to manage their finances and the necessary information they need to scale.”
For Chris Ekwonwa, Group Head, Strategy, Marketing and Corporate Communications at SanlamAllianz Nigeria, the campaign was piloted in Lagos with a view to taking the initiative round to other cities in the country in the New Year.
“We are well aware that Lagos is not Nigeria, therefore, we plan to roll out this initiative across major markets in the country in the New Year. We have done this before -we toured Nigeria as part of our rebrand, a bold roadshow never seen in these climes in our industry- we will do it again,” he assured.
Asked about his perception about insurance, a petty trader in popular Oshodi market, Mr. Ola Ibrahim said it was high time insurance companies in Nigeria came up with different sermon that would convince disgruntled Nigerians to accept insurance (again) as an indispensable need for every human being.
“You know we (Nigerians) have dislike for insurance. Though many underwriters are genuine and are striving to win more market share. But before they would convince many Nigerians to embrace them, it would be very difficult. But it’s easy to do. As some insurance companies are doing it now, they should make sure they come down to the level of the ordinary Nigerian in a language people will understand and make them see reasons to trust them. For me, I have insurance, and I like how they make everything simple for us. Nobody prays for misfortune, but they are inevitable incidents of life, and you can’t tell when or to whom it would happen to, that is why we need insurance because life is full of risks” he stated.
