‘Eagles improved against Hungary’

Nigeria’s Olympic team assistant coach Fatai Amoo has said the Flying Eagles put up an impressive and improved performance against the European side, Hungary.
The Eagles pegged Hungary 2-0 in the last Group E clash on Sunday in New Plymouth at the ongoing Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
A brace from star striker Taiwo Awoniyi proved adequate to hand the African champions the knockout stage ticket on six points behind group winners, Brazil.
Amoo said the side need to work extensively on the defence now they are drawn against European powerhouse Germany in the round of 16 clash.
“The Flying Eagles played very well against Hungary and have shown great improvement after the 2-4 defeat to Brazil in the first game of the championship.
“I think they have done very well so far in the tournament but must work on the defence now they are playing Germany.
“I believe the coaches must make great effort to watch at least Germany’s last three matches to get an idea on how to approach the Europeans.
“Germany is certain not to take anything for granted in the encounter because they already know that Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.
“Germany is beatable though it will be tough for us as well as Germany,” said the former Super Eagles assistant coach to supersport.com.
Amoo however said the bench role of the duo, Kelechi Iheanacho and Isaac Success, does not undermine their potency in the team.
“Iheanacho and Success were not key to the side’s qualification as well as success at the African Youth Championship in Senegal.
