Oba Olugbenle Commissions Ultra-Modern Amusement Park, Yewa Frontier Radio, Calls for Business-Friendly Environment in Yewaland
The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has urged the sons and daughters of Yewaland, both at home and abroad, to unite in fostering sustainable growth and development in the region, warning against actions that could deter prospective investors.
The monarch made the appeal during the commissioning of an ultra-modern Amusement Park and Yewa Frontier Radio in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Speaking at the event, Oba Olugbenle described the Amusement Park as a major investment that would enrich recreational experiences for children, while Yewa Frontier Radio, 109.2 FM – the first radio station in the area – would provide a sustainable platform for residents to share their stories, project ideas, and promote the overall development of Yewaland.
He commended the founder of the projects, Engr. Afisu Olabimtan, describing him as a pride of Yewaland whose efforts go beyond profit to ensure the holistic development of the community.
Highlighting the employment opportunities generated by the projects, Oba Olugbenle urged residents to prioritize growth and development and to avoid acts that could hinder sustainable progress in their community.
In an interview, Engr. Olabimtan, who is based in the United States, explained that the Amusement Park and Radio Station were established as a way of giving back to his hometown and promoting the welfare of the people. Addressing questions about political ambitions, he clarified, “I did not establish the Radio Station to enter politics or contest for any political office. My plan was always to be an engineer and innovator. Politics is not part of my agenda.”
He added, “When I was given the opportunity, I wanted to contribute meaningfully to the community. What we are witnessing today is part of a grand plan to give back, drawing on my engineering background. I’ve completed similar projects in Lekki, and there has never been any intent to profit. The true reward is the fulfillment of giving back to my roots.”
On infrastructural challenges, Engr. Olabimtan identified lack of infrastructure as a major barrier to development in many communities. He encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to overcome unfounded fears about returning home, describing them as myths that should not prevent contributions to local development.
Earlier, Chief Mrs. Temitope Adeola, wife of the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, praised Engr. Olabimtan for his visionary projects, calling them “laudable and unique.” She urged residents to utilise the radio station as a platform to showcase Yewaland’s culture, achievements, and potential to the world.
The commissioning ceremony featured a ride on the motor-driven carousel by Oba Olugbenle, alongside other monarchs, Engr. Olabimtan, and dignitaries in attendance, marking a landmark moment in the development of Yewaland.
