Super Eagles stars Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon have dismissed concerns over Victor Osimhen’s visible frustration during Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique at the Fes Sports Complex, insisting the incident had no impact on team unity.

Osimhen, who scored twice in the round-of-16 clash at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, appeared upset after Lookman failed to spot a passing option, sparking brief tension on the pitch before the Napoli striker was substituted in the 70th minute.

He was booed by fans as he walked off the pitch.

The reaction quickly generated debate among fans, but speaking after the match, Lookman played down the incident, stressing that the Super Eagles remain focused on their collective goal of winning the tournament.

“Victor is our number one guy,” Lookman said. “He’s a top striker and very important to the team. Moments like that happen in football, but they don’t change our togetherness.

“I play for the badge and my teammates. Whether it’s an assist or a goal, the team always comes first. Victor’s hunger pushes all of us, and we understand each other.”

Lookman added that the squad remains calm and united, with full respect for coaching decisions and focus firmly on the next game.

“We stay calm, respect decisions, and keep our eyes on what’s ahead,” he said.

Moses Simon also brushed aside suggestions of discord, saying he did not see anything unusual during the game.

“I didn’t see anything actually,” Simon said. “Some people said he did something bad, but we are one team and there is nothing to talk about.

“He’s a fighter. He always fights for us, and we need him just as he needs us. We will keep going together.”

Osimhen has now recorded three goals and three assists at the tournament, while Lookman leads Nigeria’s attacking chart with three goals and four assists, highlighting the Super Eagles’ depth and cohesion as they advance in the competition.
