Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle hailed as pillar of progressive politics in Nigeria
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and philanthropist, Prince Kolawole Asatola Asanike, has described Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle as a pillar of progressive politics in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
In a statement made available to journalists to mark Ibikunle’s birthday, Asanike said the APC leader is widely respected, noting that his political career has been defined by service, loyalty and integrity.
He recalled Ibikunle’s role during the administration of the late former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, describing his time in government as one marked by discipline, people-centred leadership and commitment to public service.
According to Asanike, Ibikunle’s contributions to party building and governance have earned him admiration across political divides.
“Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle is a man of principle whose political journey reflects the true spirit of progressive politics,” he said.
The Ibadan-born politician highlighted Ibikunle’s early years in public service, particularly his role as personal assistant to the late Governor Lam Adesina, noting that the experience helped shape his political philosophy.
“Working closely with Alhaji Lam Adesina shaped his commitment to honest leadership, courage and service to the people,” Asanike stated.
He also drew attention to Ibikunle’s contributions at the federal level, including his service as a member of the South West Development Commission, describing the appointments as evidence of the confidence reposed in him by national leadership.
“His appointments were based on competence and credibility, not sentiment,” Asanike added.
Describing the celebrant as a stabilising force within the APC in Oyo State, Asanike said Ibikunle has continued to mentor younger politicians while quietly promoting unity and cohesion within the party.
“He is a bridge-builder who believes in dialogue and collective progress. His counsel has helped steady the party at critical moments,” he said.
Asanike prayed for good health, long life and renewed strength for Ibikunle, expressing confidence that he would continue to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the APC and the development of Oyo State.
He urged party members and the public to honour the occasion by upholding the values of service, fairness and commitment to the common good, which he said Ibikunle represents.
