Seven Federal University Lokoja students driver feared dead as truck smashes shuttle bus

An articulated vehicle carrying wood and jerrycans of palm oil allegedly lost control  leading to head- on collision with the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State, shuttle bus filled with students on Monday. 

The incident, which happened at about 2:30pm, reportedly left seven students and the bus driver  reportedly  dead, a student told  this medium  on Monday night.

The eyewitness noted that the shuttle bus was about to convey students to school when the accident happened.

“Unfortunately, the driver lost control and rammed into the school shuttle bus already filled up with students and was about to convey them to school.

“The shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicle,” the source said.

“Students are currently protesting that no truck should be allowed to move in the day time,” the source added.

Officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were at the scene to rescue victims trapped under the vehicle.

The Kogi State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Samuel Oyedeji, who led his team to the accident site, could not confirm the exact number of casualties.

He stated that bodies had been deposited in the morgue for identification, while the injured were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment.
