Saraki emerges Senate President amidst confusion

Chairman Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Dr. Olusola Saraki has emerged the Senate President of the 8th assembly. However Hallmark News learnt that Saraki was elected unopposed by 57 lawmakers who were present at the chambers, the remaining 51 Senators, including Sen. Ahmed Lawan who was the APC adopted candidate were were at the International Conference Centre at the time Saraki was declared President.
Following the adoption of Lawan as the sole candidate of APC last weekend, Saraki and his supporters protested, describing the adoption as undemocratic.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) capitalised on the APC’s insensitivity as it quickly adopted Senator Bukola Saraki for the position of Senate President.
In the same vein, the PDP adopted Hon. Yakubu Dogara for the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to contest against Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the adopted candidate of APC.
Hallmark News gathered that the PDP had thrown its support for Saraki with the condition Saraki’s supporters would vote for a PDP senator for the position of Deputy Senate President.
