Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election, has announced the death of his mother, Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour.

The politician disclosed the loss in a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, expressing gratitude for her life and legacy.

The announcement was made on behalf of the Rhodes-Vivour family by Olawale Rhodes-Vivour, who described the deceased as a woman whose life was defined by love, devotion and commitment to her family.

“With sadness in our hearts and gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the call to glory of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso). A loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. The epitome of love,” the statement read.

The family said her death marked the end of a remarkable life dedicated to the wellbeing of her loved ones and noted that she would be fondly remembered for her warmth and compassion.

While mourning her passing, the family prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.

“She will be sorely missed. May her beautiful soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.

The family did not disclose the cause of death but said funeral arrangements would be announced in the coming days.

The announcement has drawn sympathies from political associates, supporters and members of the public, many of whom have expressed condolences to the Rhodes-Vivour family.

Rhodes-Vivour remains a prominent figure in Lagos politics. He contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party before later joining the ADC.

In May 2026, he emerged as the ADC’s flag bearer for the 2027 Lagos governorship race, positioning him as one of the leading opposition figures seeking to challenge for the state’s top office.

The family said further information regarding funeral rites and memorial activities would be communicated at a later date.
