Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth up to around €60 million (£52 million). The transfer is expected to be completed after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 27-year-old defender, who has become an important figure for both Chelsea and the Spanish national team, will return to Spain after four seasons at Stamford Bridge. The deal is reported to include an initial fee of about €55 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
Cucurella’s move represents another big statement from Real Madrid as they continue rebuilding their squad. The Spanish giants see his energy, defensive ability, and experience as valuable qualities for their left side.
For Chelsea, the departure brings an end to Cucurella’s journey in London. The defender initially struggled after joining from Brighton but later improved significantly, becoming one of the club’s more reliable performers.
The transfer also adds another chapter to the rivalry between Europe’s biggest clubs, with Real Madrid strengthening their squad while Chelsea look toward the future and their younger defensive options.
Cucurella’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu could become one of the biggest defensive moves of the summer transfer window.
