The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 1.2 million Nigerians completed voter registration in the ongoing Phase II of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, as of February 13, 2026.
An official update on INEC’s X handle on Thursday showed that 1,228,648 eligible citizens had fully completed registration during Week Six of Phase II, up from 884,737 in Week Five. Of these, 673,124 started with online pre-registration, while 555,524 finalised the process at physical registration centres.
By state, Jigawa recorded the highest number of new registrants with 98,698 (8.03%), followed by Lagos (86,307), Sokoto (77,004), and Kano (71,990).
INEC’s data also highlighted gender and age trends: 696,891 females (57%) and 531,757 males (43%) registered, while youth aged 18–34 accounted for 848,066 registrants, representing 69.02 per cent. Persons with disabilities added 19,414 names to the register nationwide.
The CVR continues across the country, except in the Federal Capital Territory, where it is temporarily suspended due to the February 21, 2026, Area Council elections.
Phase II, which began on January 5, 2026, is expected to run until April 2026. It follows Phase I, which added about 2.78 million voters between August and December 2025.
The surge in registrations is seen as a boost to Nigeria’s electoral participation ahead of upcoming elections, with states like Jigawa, Lagos, and Sokoto leading in citizen engagement.
