Government workers have not been paid salaries and other entitlements for over five months in Osun state.
However, the state government is blaming the lingering economic crisis on the administration of ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking to Hallmark on behalf of the Osun State Government, Secretary to Osun State Government (SSG), Alhaji Moshood Olalekan   said, “Yes it is true that the state government owes salary. The media is not blowing it out of proportion. What you hear about unpaid salaries is true. We owe our workers five months salary. But what is not true is when they say it is the fault of the state government.
“It is not our fault. We made it clear on assumption of office that there were going to be issues.
Altogether, the worker’s salary stood at N1.6billion Naira while we were receiving N2.6billion Naira from the federal government.
It rose to 4.6billion and we had fewer problems. We began to have problems when it fell from N4.6billion to N2.6billion Naira”.
“When Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola came to power in November 2010, he introduced the payment of 13th month salary. He paid 10% the first year, in the following year he paid 25%, he paid 50% in the third year and paid in full in 2013.”
He further stated that Aregbesola has tried to live up to his campaign promises.
He said, “He came in with a plan and although there have been hitches here and there, he has tried to execute this plans to the best of his ability. He has a six point integral action plan which he has been following serious dedication.
Concerning the unpaid salaries, we are working on finding a way resolve the crisis”. He said.
