The Osun State Government on Thursday announced the completion of a 6.2-kilometre dual carriageway alongside 10 other township roads in Ilesa, describing the projects as part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s drive to stimulate industrial growth, expand business hubs, and support emerging enterprises in the historic town.
Speaking during an assessment of the roads, the state’s Director of Highways, Engr. Moruf Ojebode, said the 20-kilometre road network is a major component of the administration’s infrastructure agenda aimed at repositioning Ilesa as a commercial and economic corridor.
“Before now, Ilesa, despite its prominence, had never witnessed a dual carriageway,” Ojebode noted. “This new road stretches from the palace of the Owa-Obokun to the Imo-International Brewery and connects to the Ilesa-Akure Expressway. It features walkways and solar-powered streetlights.”
He added that the strategic placement of the road in the industrial section of Ilesa has transformed adjacent areas into thriving business hubs. “With the completion of this dual carriageway, Ilesa has gained prominence, attracting investors and uplifting the town,” Ojebode said.
The additional roads completed under the project include Ademoroti, Ogbon Titun, Bonke, Ita Ofa, Atakunmosa Market, Imose, Adeti, Oke Ese, Ajimoko, and INEC roads, further improving connectivity across the town.
Community leaders and residents praised the state government for the initiatives, stating that the projects addressed long-standing local demands. They also endorsed Governor Adeleke for a second term, citing visible, people-oriented development.
The Council Chairman of Ilesa West, Hon. Oladiti Aluko, urged residents to safeguard the roads, noting, “Our governor has fulfilled part of his electoral promises, and we must make good use of these roads.”
Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, a community head, said, “All Ilesa indigenes support Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term. His infrastructure projects have been outstanding, and we must continue to back his government.”
Similarly, the Vice Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Abuja Park, Temitope Matthew, expressed full support for the government, stating, “This road benefits my members, and we will vote massively for Governor Adeleke in the 2026 gubernatorial election.”
The dual carriageway and associated road projects are expected to enhance movement, improve access to markets and industrial clusters, and create a more conducive environment for investors and small-scale businesses in Ilesa.
