Three ruling houses in Osogbo have endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
The ruling houses – Sogbodede, Matanmi and Lahanmi – said their decision was driven by a collective resolve to restore what they described as the lost glory of the ancient town.
Speaking on behalf of the ruling houses, the heads of Sogbodede, Prince Agboola; Lahanmi, Prince Yekini Oyeniyi; and Matanmi, Prince Tafa Olugbeja, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Osogbo.
They accused the present administration of undermining the status of the state capital and vowed to mobilise support for Oyebamiji’s election.
According to the princes, the town has suffered neglect and deserves a government that will protect its interests and restore its pride.
> “We, who are gathered here today, represent the royal ruling houses of Osogbo. We have repeatedly stated that the current government has undermined us. Our pride has been taken away from us, while our land has been illegally encroached upon and distorted. The current government has failed our people and our town, and we are determined to vote it out on August 15, 2026,” they said.
The traditional leaders also alleged that parts of Osogbo had been wrongly designated under Ede through government geo-location arrangements despite a court judgment affirming the town’s land boundaries.
> “It is disheartening that despite the court verdict affirming our land boundaries with Ede, there are still encroachments. More disturbing is the geo-location of some parts of Osogbo by the state government, which now reflects Ede. It is unheard of and unacceptable that notable areas in Osogbo have been skewed in favour of the Governor’s hometown,” they said.
The ruling houses said they were backing the APC candidate because they believed he would address the issues affecting the town if elected.
> “We have resolved to support Oyebamiji to correct these anomalies. Our endorsement is genuine and sincere, and we are ready to mobilise massive votes for him,” the princes added.
Responding, Oyebamiji thanked the ruling houses for their endorsement and pledged to run an inclusive and people-centred administration if elected governor.
He assured the royal families and residents that every community in the state would be treated fairly under his leadership.
> “Our administration will be inclusive, participatory and people-oriented. No individual or community will be denied what rightfully belongs to them under my watch,” he said.
The APC flag bearer also urged residents of Osogbo and other parts of the state to participate actively in the election by voting for the APC.
> “I appeal to the people of Osogbo and the entire state to come out in large numbers on election day and vote for us. The aspirations and welfare of the people will remain our priority in government,” Oyebamiji said.
