Osimhen faces surgery after suffering arm fracture against Liverpool

Victor Osimhen on the floor after his injury

Victor Osimhen could undergo surgery after suffering a fractured arm during Galatasaray’s heavy 4–0 defeat to Liverpool FC in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash at Anfield.

The injury occurred early in the encounter when Osimhen collided with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during an aerial challenge. Konaté landed awkwardly on the striker’s arm, leaving the Nigerian international in visible discomfort.

Despite the knock, Osimhen continued until halftime with his arm strapped before being withdrawn at the start of the second half. Some Liverpool players had initially questioned the severity of the injury, but medical examinations after the game confirmed a fracture to his right forearm.

In a statement released on Thursday, Galatasaray disclosed that the striker’s arm has been placed in a cast, with a decision on possible surgery to be taken after further evaluation.

“In the first half of our away match against Liverpool, our player Victor Osimhen sustained a blow to his arm. He completed the first half but was withdrawn at halftime due to the risk of a fracture. Subsequent hospital examinations confirmed a fracture in his right forearm,” the club said.

Osimhen’s injury compounded a difficult night for the Turkish side, who were outclassed by a dominant Liverpool performance. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring, while Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah added further goals to seal a comprehensive victory and progression to the quarter-finals.

Galatasaray also confirmed that Osimhen’s replacement, Noa Lang, sustained a serious thumb injury and will undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Turkey.

Before the setback, Osimhen had been instrumental for Galatasaray in Europe this season, registering seven goals and three assists in 10 Champions League appearances.
