Ogun SUBEB urges headteachers to organise in-house training for teachers

SUBEB Urges Teachers to Boost Pupil Enrolment as Schools Resume Third Term

Evangelist Olalekan Ifede,

The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Olalekan Ifede, has urged headteachers of public primary schools across the state to organise regular in-house training for teachers to strengthen instructional delivery and improve pupils’ learning outcomes.

Ifede gave the charge during a monitoring visit to St. Peter’s Nursery and Primary School II in Isara Remo, explaining that the initiative was designed to complement the board’s efforts to ensure that pupils in public primary schools acquire strong reading, writing and communication skills.

He noted that the monitoring exercise was aimed at assessing the implementation of measures introduced to improve learning outcomes in schools. These measures include the use of two-dimensional instructional materials for handwriting, phonics-based teaching methods and the display of schools’ vision and mission statements in classrooms.

According to him, regular in-house training would equip teachers with better pedagogical skills and ultimately translate into improved academic performance among pupils.

He also encouraged teachers to adopt innovative teaching methods capable of promoting academic excellence in classrooms.

“It is compulsory for every child in this country to have basic education. The moment a child gets to Junior Secondary School, he or she is equipped to pursue any vocation,” he said.

The SUBEB chairman further disclosed that additional monitoring teams had been deployed to other local government areas, including Ota and Ipokia, to ensure compliance with the board’s directives across the state.

While expressing satisfaction with the level of implementation observed during the visit, he urged teachers to carry out their duties with a strong sense of responsibility and ensure that lessons are delivered in line with approved standards.

In their separate remarks, the headteacher of Ansar-ud-Deen School II, Olufunmilayo Oyemosu, and the headteacher of St. Peter’s Nursery and Primary Schools I and II in Isara Remo, Kubrat Ogunsolu, commended the board for the inspection and assured that any identified gaps would be addressed.
