The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in partnership with HIBAD Strategic Solutions Limited, has trained local government officials across the state on fiscal discipline, effective performance, and compliance with government policies and programmes.

The two-day workshop, held in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was themed “Fiscal Administrative Due Process and Enhanced Internal Revenue Generation for Ogun State Local Government Councils.”

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner in the ministry, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, said the training was designed to strengthen participants’ administrative and financial management capacity, while also sensitising them to due process for optimal service delivery.

He noted that a well-structured organisation is defined by the prudent and procedural use of resources, which helps prevent legal and administrative lapses and enhances institutional efficiency.

Hamzat stressed that promoting due diligence in public service is a collective responsibility, urging participants to actively engage in all sessions to improve their performance and minimise avoidable risks in the discharge of their duties.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, encouraged participants to remain open to continuous learning and retraining programmes to achieve excellence in governance. He added that the knowledge gained would improve service delivery at the grassroots level.

Also speaking, a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Alhaji Idris Bakori, said the workshop was aimed at familiarising local government officials with financial regulations and guiding their operations.

He added that the collaboration would promote knowledge sharing and strengthen administrative practices.

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Ogun State, Hon. Afolashade Adeyemo, described the workshop as timely, noting that modern governance is increasingly driven by transparency and accountability. She stressed that adherence to fiscal due process is critical to prudent financial management and building public trust.

Responding on behalf of participants, Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Ambassador Theophilus Olorode, commended the organisers, noting that improved revenue generation would enhance project delivery and raise the standard of living of the people.

He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would translate into better service delivery, stronger institutions, and sustainable development at the grassroots level.
