The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Olanrewaju Saka, has called on alumni of government secondary schools in the state to complement the efforts of the Dapo Abiodun administration in improving education by supporting their alma maters through infrastructure development, mentorship and other meaningful interventions.
Saka made the appeal at a dinner organised by the 1991/1996 set of the Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys Association (AGSOBA) to commemorate the school’s 118th Founder’s Day at Mitros Hall, Ibara, Abeokuta.
He described education as a lifelong process that goes beyond classroom learning, stressing that former students have a responsibility to contribute to the growth and development of their schools.
According to him, giving back to alma maters through educational support and mentoring would help preserve the legacy of the institutions while inspiring younger generations.
“It is gratifying to see the positive impact that teachers and mentors have made in the lives of these old boys, who have grown into responsible citizens and are now contributing to the development of their schools and society,” he said.
Saka commended members of the 1991/1996 set for sustaining their bond over the past 30 years and encouraged them to remain committed to supporting educational development in the state.
He added that the Ogun State Public Service would continue to promote excellence, innovation and people-centred governance in line with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA development agenda.
Responding, President of the 1991/1996 set, Mr Benjamin Sotunde, described the reunion as an opportunity to reconnect with former classmates, relive cherished memories and contribute to the development of their alma mater.
The event featured the presentation of awards to distinguished members of the association and former teachers in recognition of their commitment to education and public service, including the Head of Service, Mr Olanrewaju Saka.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced that public and private primary and secondary schools, as well as government technical colleges, will commence the third-term holiday for the 2025/2026 academic session from Monday, July 27, to Friday, September 11, 2026.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the ministry said schools are expected to resume for the 2026/2027 academic session on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The commissioner urged parents and guardians to ensure the proper care and supervision of their children throughout the holiday period.
