The Ogun State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as sustained efforts to create a more enabling environment for teachers and strengthen the education sector in the state.

In a statement jointly signed by its State Chairman, Comrade Oluwaseun Felix Agbesanwa, and State Secretary, Comrade Oluseyi Bankole, the union described the governor as teacher-friendly and committed to building a supportive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning.

ASUSS particularly applauded the recent appointment of two Principals-General, saying the move reflects deliberate steps by the Abiodun administration to deepen leadership capacity in public secondary schools. The appointees are Mr Mathew Osilesi, Principal-General of Remo Division, and Mr Yakubu Lamidi, Principal-General of Ijebu Division.

The union congratulated the new Principals-General and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, professionalism and exemplary leadership. It noted that their appointments were aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and improving the overall quality of secondary education in Ogun State.

According to ASUSS, the current administration is on course to leave the education sector better than it met it.

“On behalf of over 10,000 secondary school teachers in Ogun State, we assure Your Excellency of our total loyalty, support and unwavering backing at all times. Your teacher-friendly posture has restored hope and dignity to the teaching profession in Ogun State,” the statement said.

The union also commended the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, for their roles in ensuring that teachers’ concerns receive prompt attention under the present administration.

In the same vein, ASUSS appreciated the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, noting that his leadership had resulted in the elevation of three education officers in the latest round of appointments.

The union assured the TESCOM chairman of its continued cooperation in efforts to strengthen secondary education in the state. It also congratulated all newly sworn-in appointees and urged them to discharge their duties with humility, compassion and fairness.
