Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has commended the successful conduct of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention, describing it as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Obi praised the leadership of the party, particularly the National Chairman, David Mark, for providing steady direction during a critical period.
He also lauded the convention organising committee led by former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, for ensuring the success of the exercise despite challenges.
Obi expressed appreciation to delegates, party members, volunteers and supporters across the country, noting that their participation underscored the resilience of democratic values in Nigeria.
He further acknowledged the role of Nigerians in sustaining democracy, saying their commitment remains a powerful force against threats to democratic governance.
However, the former presidential candidate cautioned that the success of the convention should not end with celebrations, urging party members and leaders to focus on addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
According to him, Nigeria is currently grappling with economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and widespread uncertainty, which require urgent and decisive action.
Obi stressed that the outcome of the convention should translate into a renewed commitment to nation-building, with emphasis on practical solutions, institutional strengthening and restoring public confidence.
He called for unity, sacrifice and integrity among political actors, urging them to prioritise national interest above personal or partisan considerations.
“The way forward demands that we put Nigeria first, above politics and division. With commitment and focus, we can build a nation that works for everyone,” he said.
Obi added that sustained dedication to democratic principles and good governance would be key to achieving a stable and prosperous Nigeria.
