The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has called for deeper collaboration between Nigeria and Switzerland, saying stronger partnerships rooted in human development are crucial to the country’s future.
Obi disclosed this on Wednesday after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Egloff, describing their discussions as productive and focused on Nigeria’s development priorities.
In a post on his X handle, the former Anambra State governor said the meeting centred on issues such as education, healthcare and poverty reduction, which he described as critical to national development.
He also commended the Swiss Confederation for its continued support to Nigeria, particularly its humanitarian and peace-building interventions in the North-East.
“I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East,” Obi said.
The former governor stressed that stronger bilateral cooperation would contribute significantly to Nigeria’s development aspirations.
“Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” he added.
Obi noted that the meeting underscored the importance of sustained international cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, expressing optimism that closer engagement with development partners such as Switzerland would help advance inclusive growth and improve the well-being of citizens.
