The Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mrs. Hadiza Umar, has been recognised among Nigeria’s leading public relations professionals after being named in the 2026 PR Power List.
The annual ranking, compiled by GLG Communications in collaboration with The Guardian to commemorate World PR Day, celebrates 50 public relations practitioners in Nigeria and the diaspora who have made significant contributions to the communications profession over the past year.
In addition to making the list, Umar was unveiled as one of the cover personalities for the Glazia Magazine PR Power List Special Issue during the PR Power List Soirée and Awards held at Alliance Française in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Reacting to the recognition, Umar described the honours as both humbling and inspiring, expressing gratitude to the organisers for the acknowledgement.
She said featuring on the magazine cover alongside other industry professionals was an unexpected recognition and a testament to the collective efforts of her team.
According to Umar, the achievement was made possible by the leadership of NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, whose support has enabled the agency to effectively communicate Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
She noted that the agency has continued to strengthen public awareness of government initiatives aimed at advancing digital literacy, technology innovation, startup development and information technology policies.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the Institute of Corporate Administration (CICA), Umar has led NITDA’s communications strategy, helping to enhance public engagement and promote the agency’s programmes within Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
According to the organisers, the 2026 PR Power List honours individuals who have demonstrated excellence, innovation and measurable impact in public relations through strategic communication and leadership.
They said this year’s recipients were selected following an independent evaluation by an international panel of judges, with the aim of recognising professionals who continue to raise standards within the public relations industry in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
