The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to partner with Nigerian music star Burna Boy to accelerate development in the Niger Delta region.

The Commission made this known during a courtesy visit by the Grammy-winning artiste, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, to its headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of the Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed NDDC’s commitment to its mandate of developing the Niger Delta. He disclosed that the Commission would construct the access road to the artiste’s hometown in Ahoada West Local Government Area and execute other projects aimed at improving living conditions in the region.

Ogbuku urged the music icon to leverage his global influence to attract investment to the Niger Delta, including hosting events in Port Harcourt to stimulate economic growth. He described Burna Boy as a major asset to the region and called on him to serve as a role model for young people.

“We need to partner because this relationship will be symbiotic. Let us not run away from our region; bring your popularity home so that the Niger Delta can benefit,” Ogbuku said.

In his response, Burna Boy expressed readiness to work with the Commission to drive sustainable development in his community. He highlighted pressing infrastructure challenges, including poor road access, inadequate healthcare facilities, and lack of potable water, and called for NDDC’s intervention.

Also speaking, the artiste’s father, Samuel Ogulu, commended the Commission’s leadership for its developmental efforts in the region.

Other NDDC officials present at the meeting included Boma Iyaye and Ifedayo Abegunde.

The development was contained in a statement signed by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs, on March 18, 2026.
