The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the progress made in completing key legacy projects across the Niger Delta region, with several now ready for inauguration.
Ogbuku disclosed this after a meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja, where he highlighted the Commission’s efforts to deliver on its mandate and align its programmes with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He attributed the pace of project delivery to what he described as strong backing from the Presidency, noting that the President had directed the Commission to ensure the completion of all ongoing legacy projects for the benefit of the people of the Niger Delta.
According to him, the engagement with the President provided an opportunity to present updates on strategic interventions by the Commission, particularly in infrastructure and social development across the region.
Among the projects already completed, Ogbuku listed the 650-bed Niger Delta University hostel complex in Amassoma, Bayelsa State, and an electrification project in Oron, Akwa Ibom State. He said the Commission had formally invited the President to inaugurate the projects as part of efforts to showcase the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable development in the oil-rich region.
The NDDC boss noted that the new hostel at the Niger Delta University would address long-standing accommodation challenges faced by students, improve welfare, and enhance academic productivity by providing a conducive living environment within the campus.
Ogbuku also revealed that several other landmark projects were at advanced stages and would soon be ready for commissioning. These include the Kaa–Ataba Road and Bridge in Rivers State, the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital in Rivers State, and road projects in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
He further briefed the President on ongoing collaboration between the Commission, the Delta State Government, and Chevron Nigeria Limited on the 70.75-kilometre Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and bridges in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment, Ogbuku said the NDDC would continue to intensify efforts to deliver impactful projects that align with the Federal Government’s development agenda and improve the living conditions of people in the Niger Delta.
