Nation reporter emerges star winner of Promasidor Quill Awards

It was an emotional evening when Taiwo Alimi of the Nation newspaper emerged the overall winner of this year’s edition of  Promasidor Quill Awards held at the weekend in Lagos.
Alimi who won with  his story, “Where the Blind Dare to Dream,”  also clinched the Category award Best Report on Education.
A teary Alimi who is a sport journalist said the award was a reward for 15 year of labour in journalism. “I have  been a sport writer for 15 years. This was the first time I  wrote a story outside sport, about blind people living together to help themselves”, he said in-between sobs.
The award for the Best Report on Children was won by the  Punch’s Toluwani Eniola for the story “Man Abandons Children in Boarding School for Eight Years.”
Guardian’s  Gbenga Salau, went home with two awards; “the Brand Advocate of the Year” and “Best Report on Nutrition  with “Nutrition as Tool to Tackle Maternal,  Child Mortality.”
Nation’s Seun Akioye and Gilbert Alasa won the “Best CSR and Industry Report” and the “Future Writer of the Year,” respectively, while  Ajayi Adekunle Joshua of Daily Independent, he won the “Best Photo Story.”
Speaking at the event,  Managing Director, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell, and organisers of the prestigious Promasidor Quill awards, , Olivier Thiry, Managing Director, who commended all journalists who submitted entries for different categories of the awards noted that the job of journalists is so painstaking,  that  no reward could adequately compensate the effort. “It was in recognition of these that Promasidor Nigeria instituted the Quill Awards in 2002 as a platform for assessing, recognizing and rewarding for outstanding journalistic work. I am pleased to say that this competition has been successful since its first year. As in previous years, we have been humbled by the quality and quantity of entries for each award category which has been growing since this competition began”, he concluded.
