The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered over 2,000 households in Kano State with clean energy technologies under its Sustainable Empowerment Programme, aimed at improving access to reliable energy and reducing environmental impact.

The initiative, launched in Kano on April 28, 2026, provided beneficiaries with clean cookstoves, solar home systems and other tools designed to support households in rural and semi-urban communities.

Flagging off the programme, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, said the intervention demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to translating policy into tangible benefits for citizens.

She noted that the programme aligns with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in promoting industrialisation, job creation and inclusive growth. According to her, Kano’s selection as host underscores its historical importance as a commercial and manufacturing hub in West Africa.

Oduwole added that the initiative supports broader continental trade goals under the African Continental Free Trade Area by encouraging local technology adoption and strengthening domestic production capacity.

In his remarks, Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the programme is part of the agency’s Zero Carbon (ZeCo) Project, which focuses on reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner energy solutions.

He explained that the distributed technologies are locally produced and tailored to Nigerian conditions, adding that the initiative aims to improve living standards, enhance productivity and support small-scale economic activities.

“These are not just tools but part of a broader effort to build a cleaner, healthier Nigeria,” he said, urging beneficiaries to make effective use of the equipment.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Technology Transfer, Mohammed Dahiru; Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Chris Osa Isokpunwu; National Coordinator of AfCFTA, Patience Okala; and Kano State official Salisu Mustapha, who represented the Head of Service.
