The equity market yesterday reversed its losses as it closed on a
positive note. At the close of business, the NSE ASI appreciated
marginally by 0.06% to close at 34,529.46 points, compared with the
depreciation of 0.62% recorded yesterday.
Nevertheless, Year-to-Date (YTD) it has depreciated by 0.37%.
The appreciation in the Index could be attributed to the gains
recorded in the share prices of some highly capitalised stocks such
as: Lafarge, FBN Holdings, Guinness, Nestle and GT Bank, amongst
others.
Similarly, the Market Capitalization appreciated by 0.06% to close at
N11.77trn, compared with the depreciation of 0.62% recorded during the
previous trading session to close at N11.76trn.
The total value of the stocks traded on the floors of The NSE was
N3.49bn, up by 6.15% from N3.29bn traded previously. The total volume
of stocks traded was 342.91mn in 5,500 deals. The three most actively
traded stocks were: UBA (63.81mn), FCMB (47.85mn) and Access Bank
(47.57mn), while the most actively traded sectors were: Financial
Services (264.20mn), Conglomerates (38.58mn) and Consumer Goods
(12.86mn).
