The Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN), Ogun State Chapter, has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising the welfare of retirees through the payment of 10 years’ outstanding gratuity arrears owed to local government pensioners and retired primary school teachers.
The association described the development as a major relief for thousands of beneficiaries across the state.
Speaking during the July Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting attended by local government chairmen and other stakeholders in Abeokuta, the Chairman of LOGPAN in Ogun State, Pastor Benedict Ademoye, praised the governor for placing pensioners’ welfare at the centre of his administration’s agenda.
Ademoye also lauded the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, describing it as a sustainable framework that guarantees regular pension payments and improved retirement benefits for serving workers and retirees.
According to him, the scheme has strengthened the financial security of pensioners while ensuring a more reliable and rewarding retirement system.
He also commended the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led by Commissioner Ganiyu Hamzat, for initiating policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of retirees in the state.
“I commend Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Commissioner and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for their responsiveness, innovation and dedication to ensuring that retirees in Ogun State enjoy a more comfortable and dignified life after service. Your Excellency, thank you for your compassion and for giving attention to our yearnings,” Ademoye said.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, said the governor’s consistent fulfilment of obligations to retirees reflects a leadership style anchored on compassion, accountability and responsible governance.
He noted that the prompt payment of gratuities demonstrates the administration’s commitment to protecting the welfare and dignity of pensioners.
Hamzat added that the Abiodun administration has continued to prioritise the welfare of senior citizens by ensuring that those who dedicated their productive years to public service receive the recognition, respect and support they deserve in retirement.
According to the commissioner, the sustained payment of gratuities underscores the government’s resolve to honour its obligations to retirees, restore hope, renew confidence and improve the quality of life of thousands of pensioners.
He added that the initiative aligns with the administration’s vision of building an inclusive government that recognises dedication, loyalty and meritorious service.
