Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy President of the Senate , has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, declaring that he could no longer remain in a party where he was unable to advance the interests of his people.
Omo-Agege announced his resignation in a letter dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The former senator said his decision followed consultations with his political associates and supporters, as well as a review of recent developments within the APC in Delta State.
According to him, “after reviewing recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear that my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the party.”
Explaining the reason behind his exit, Omo-Agege stated: “I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.”
The former lawmaker, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District and served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, thanked the APC for the platform it provided him during his political career.
“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he said.
Omo-Agege also reaffirmed his commitment to the development of his constituency and the country, stressing that his political focus remains unchanged despite his departure from the ruling party.
According to the statement, “Senator Omo-Agege affirmed that his focus remains on delivering development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria,” adding that he would continue to pursue those goals outside the APC.
The resignation was conveyed in a press statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh.
