The Nigerian Army has elevated six Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the 81 Division, with senior commanders urging the officers to uphold professionalism and rise to the demands of their new responsibilities.

The promotion ceremony took place on Thursday at the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Victoria Island, Lagos, where the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Maj.-Gen. Adebayo Babalola, decorated the officers with their new ranks.

Those promoted are Lt. Col. A. Sanusi, Lt. Col. A.L. Lawal, Lt. Col. L.A. Ishaku, Lt. Col. B.J. Gimba, Lt. Col. M.B. Sifawa and Lt. Col. G.O. Uwagboe.

The officers serve in various strategic capacities within the division, including intelligence, training, education, administration and regimental responsibilities.

Addressing the newly promoted officers, Babalola said the elevation was a recognition of their hard work, discipline and professional competence over the years.

He urged them to remain focused and continue to demonstrate leadership in the discharge of their duties.

According to the GOC, promotion in the Nigerian Army is not merely ceremonial but reflects trust and confidence in an officer’s ability to take on greater responsibility.

“I have carefully observed your career progression and I am confident that greater responsibilities lie ahead if you remain committed and focused,” he said.

Babalola stressed that the new rank carries higher expectations, urging the officers to uphold discipline and remain dedicated to the service of the nation.
