Final evacuation flight to return 315 Nigerians from South Africa on Wednesday

The Federal Government has completed arrangements for the final phase of its evacuation exercise from South Africa, with 315 Nigerians expected to arrive in Lagos on Wednesday aboard an Air Peace flight.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

According to the ministry, the fifth and final evacuation flight will depart Johannesburg at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and is scheduled to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at approximately 6:30 a.m.

The flight will bring home Nigerians who opted to return following recent xenophobic attacks and security concerns in parts of South Africa.

The evacuation exercise, coordinated by the Federal Government, follows four earlier flights that successfully repatriated hundreds of Nigerians from the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the operation underscores the government’s commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad.

It also commended all agencies and stakeholders that contributed to the successful implementation of the evacuation programme.

With the arrival of the final batch of returnees, the government is expected to conclude the special repatriation exercise initiated in response to the situation in South Africa.
