The Federal Government has announced plans to sell a 753-unit housing estate recovered from former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, as proceeds of crime.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Salisu Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

According to Haiba, the estate—comprising duplexes—was handed over to the Ministry by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being recovered as part of ongoing efforts to reclaim looted public assets.

The statement revealed that the EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, formally handed over the property to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.

Dangiwa commended the EFCC for its continued commitment to the fight against corruption and the recovery of stolen assets. He confirmed that the Ministry would embark on a joint familiarisation tour with the EFCC to properly assess the condition of the estate.

“We will conduct thorough structural and integrity assessments to ensure the buildings and infrastructure are safe and suitable for habitation,” Dangiwa said.

He added that a comprehensive technical evaluation would be carried out to determine the cost of completing outstanding infrastructure, including perimeter fencing, internal roads, drainage, police post, shopping areas, recreational facilities, and other key amenities.

The Minister said the estate would be offered for sale both to the general public and to meet special government housing needs.

“For the public sale, we will ensure a transparent and competitive process,” he stated.
