Pharmacists working in Ogun State government health facilities have been urged to strengthen communication with patients to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care and reduce avoidable complications.

Dr Olayinka Elemide, Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Hospitals Management Board, made the call during a two-day training for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in secondary health facilities across the state. The programme was held at the Pharmacy House in Leme, Abeokuta.

Speaking on the theme “Achieving Optimum Pharmaceutical Care and Effective DRF Management,” Dr Elemide commended the participants for their role in promoting health and productivity among residents. She said their work in dispensing medicines and educating patients on proper drug use aligned with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA mantra.

The resource person, retired Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Abeokuta, Dr Olusola Amoo, noted that pharmaceutical services are constantly evolving, and pharmacists must adapt accordingly.

Dr Amoo emphasised the need for pharmacists to monitor patients’ responses to drug therapy and collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Also speaking, the Board’s Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharm. Opeyemi Kayode, highlighted the importance of the training and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their work.

Two participants, Pharm. Rose Olufunso and Pharm. Adewale Faleti, told journalists they were grateful to Governor Abiodun and the leadership of the Hospitals Management Board for the training opportunity. They said the programme had expanded their knowledge and would improve their service delivery to the people of Ogun State.
