Edo pastor, woman stripped over alleged adultery in viral video
A man believed to be a pastor and a yet-to-be-identified married woman were subjected to public humiliation and stripped naked by irate youths in Iguomon community, Benin City, Edo State, over alleged adultery.
The incident, which occurred over the weekend, was captured in a video that went viral on social media on Monday, drawing widespread condemnation.
Eyewitnesses said the pastor had allegedly been involved in a secret affair with the woman before both were caught together in compromising circumstances.
In the video, angry youths were seen forcibly dragging the man, reportedly a clergyman, out of a residential building. He was stripped completely naked and made to sit on the bare floor as onlookers jeered. The woman, also forcibly removed from the same premises, was initially taunted before being stripped by a female member of the mob.
The commotion attracted a large crowd of residents, many of whom were seen recording the incident with their mobile phones.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, said the matter had not yet been formally reported to the police, and he could not act solely based on a viral video.
“The matter has not been brought to the attention of the police yet. I can’t say anything based on a viral video,” he said.
The incident has sparked outrage among social media users, many of whom condemned the mob’s actions and called for an investigation and possible arrests for assault and public indecency.
