A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of assets linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu to the Federal Government.
The order, granted by Justice Jude Onwugbuzie of the FCT High Court, Apo, on Thursday, followed an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking permanent forfeiture of the assets.
The forfeited properties include jewellery valued at approximately N4.65 billion, 11 luxury vehicles worth about N4.29 billion, as well as $50,000 and N30 million in cash.
In his ruling, Justice Onwugbuzie granted the anti-graft agency’s request for the final forfeiture of the assets after considering the application brought before the court.
The decision effectively transfers ownership of the seized properties to the Federal Government.
The EFCC had approached the court as part of its efforts to recover assets allegedly linked to unlawful activities, arguing that the properties should be permanently forfeited to the government.
With the court’s ruling, the jewellery, exotic vehicles and cash assets are now to be taken over by the Federal Government in accordance with the forfeiture order.
The judgment marks another significant asset recovery secured by the anti-corruption agency through the courts.
