Celebrating a life of impact: Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the 2026 Transforming Lives Award

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

By Comrade Isiaka Sadiq Fache.

The University of Dundee’s decision to name Senator Natasha H Akpoti Uduaghan a joint recipient of the “2026 Transforming Lives Award” is more than an alumni honor. It is a global acknowledgement of leadership that converts education into tangible change.

Senator Akpoti Uduaghan’s postgraduate journey at Dundee reads like a blueprint for purposeful public service: MBA, International Oil and Gas Management, 2012 – mastering the commercial, legal, and environmental architecture of Nigeria’s most critical sector.
PGD, Petroleum Law and Policy, 2013 – sharpening the legal instruments needed to advocate for resource justice.
She did not collect certificates. She collected tools. And she has used them relentlessly.

Her motto is not rhetoric. In a political landscape often defined by performance, Senator Akpoti Uduaghan has anchored her tenure on outcomes for Kogi Central and Nigeria at large. From championing transparency in the extractive industries, to advancing social infrastructure, to amplifying the voices of women and youth, her service reflects the very ethos Dundee seeks to honor: transforming lives.

The Award recognizes alumni whose work creates “positive change in their communities and beyond.” Senator Akpoti Uduaghan’s trajectory embodies that mandate. She returned from Dundee not to spectate, but to build – taking global expertise and localizing it for the resilient people she represents.

In her own words, “This recognition is not mine alone… it belongs to the resilient and inspiring people of Nigeria especially Kogi Central.” That humility is the hallmark of her leadership. She frames every milestone as collective, every honor as borrowed from the communities she serves. It is why the Dundee alumni community’s nomination resonates so deeply: it honors not just a senator, but the people whose purpose fuels her work.

The University of Dundee has long produced graduates who move beyond professions into missions. With this Award, it affirms that Senator Natasha H Akpoti Uduaghan stands in that tradition – a policymaker grounded in technical knowledge, a legislator guided by equity, and a Nigerian whose global education is paying local dividends every day.

To Senator Akpoti Uduaghan: Dundee gave you the framework. You gave Nigeria the impact. Congratulations on a distinction richly deserved. Service over self, indeed.
