President Mohammadu Buhari will be meeting the two leaders of the National Assembly, the Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara for the first time after they were elected .
This was contained in a notice issued by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and chairman of the progressive governors, inviting his colleagues to a meeting on Thursday at the Imo lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
The event which will have governors of All Progressives Congress (APC) and other members of the party’ s National Executive Council will be attended by Buhari.
Although the notice did not say specifically the agenda of the meeting, Hallmark news learnt that the emergency meeting was called to resolve the crisis in the national assembly.
The election of Bukola Saraki as senate president and Yakubu Dogara as speaker against the wishes of the APC hierarchy has been generating controversy in the party.
Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila were the party’s preferred candidates for the respective positions, but both men lost after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed their opponents.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 8pm and the governors are expected to take a position ahead of the APC national executive committee (NEC) which will hold on Friday at 10am.
The governors are hopeful that the crises would be resolved by this weekend after previous meetings by the various interests in the party failed to calm matters.
