Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is mourning the loss of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Orduah Amaechi, who died at the age of 89.
Amaechi announced her passing in a message posted on his Facebook page on Friday.
“My lovely mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Orduah Amaechi, has gone to be with the Lord at 89,” he wrote.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), where Amaechi is the party’s vice-presidential candidate, had earlier confirmed the development in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
In the statement, the party expressed sympathy to Amaechi and his family, describing the late matriarch as a woman whose love, guidance and sacrifices positively impacted many lives.
“The African Democratic Congress extends its deepest condolences to our vice-presidential candidate, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, on the passing of his beloved mother, Mrs Mary Amaechi,” the statement read.
The party noted that a mother’s legacy is reflected in the values she instils and the lives she touches, adding that the late Mrs Amaechi would be remembered for her enduring influence on her family and community.
ADC further prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and asked God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, also joined in mourning the late Mrs Amaechi.
In a tribute posted on his official X account, Atiku described her as a devout Christian who lived a life of faith, service and compassion.
According to him, she was widely regarded as a mother figure to many people and would be remembered for raising a leader who made significant contributions to national development.
“I join family, friends and associates of His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi in mourning the passing of his beloved mother,” Atiku said.
He added that Nigeria owed a debt of gratitude to the late matriarch for nurturing one of the country’s notable public servants and political figures.
Atiku prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Also paying tribute was the CRA Advocacy Network, which expressed sadness over her death and offered prayers for Amaechi and members of his family.
The group described the late Dame Mary Amaechi as a respected matriarch whose memory would continue to live on through the lives she touched.
Mrs Amaechi’s death has drawn condolences from political associates, supporters and well-wishers across the country, many of whom have celebrated her life and legacy.
