Archbishop of Lagos lauds Buhari for rejecting same sex marriage

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins on Tuesdaypraised President MuhammaduBuhari for dissociating Nigeria from same sexmarriage.

Martins, who spoke at the 3rd anniversary of his ordination andinstallation as the Archbishop of Lagos held at the Holy Cross Cathedral,Lagos, said that Buhari’s rejection of same sex marriage on behalf of
Nigeria indicated that he was a responsive leader.

 

“About a week ago, the President won the applause of most Nigerians whenduring his visit to the United States he made it clear that Nigeriaconsiders same sex union as contrary to our cultural and religion values.

 

“This is a good development and an indication that we have a listeningleader.

“I want to commend Mr President for abiding by the wishes of the peopleregarding the sacredness of the traditional notion of marriage and familylife in our culture.“

Martins was ordained as Archbishop of Lagos on August 4, 2012. He took overwhen Anthony Cardinal Okogie retired as Cardinal.
