The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused former governor of the state, Senator Chris Ngige and his All Progressives Congress (APC) of plot to cause mayhem and destabilize the party during the week’s planned party congresses.
The former chairman of the party who is also a candidate in the next Saturday state congress, Prince Ken Emeakayi made this allegation yesterday during an interactive session with journalists in Awka.
Also the national publicity secretary of the party, Chief Olisah Metuh has raised alarm over threats to their lives by persons they alleged to be agents of the ruling APC.
Metuh who spoke through Emeakayi, in a media briefing in Awka yesterday said they have received multiple voice calls and text messages over the last few weeks by some faceless persons they believed to be political thugs of APC threatening their lives, apparently to scare them from restructuring and helping the PDP to rediscover itself to winning ways.
Emeakayi in his presentation pointed out that all the PDP faithful in the state are excited with the planned ward, local government and state congresses of the party expected to kick-start next Tuesday because lack of party structure in the state has negatively affected its electoral and administrative fortunes in the state.
He accused some money bags and political jobbers in the state who hob-nubs with PDP and every other party and who were bent on impressing the new administration of President Muhammadu Buhari that they still call the shots in the state, have allegedly perfected plans to import thugs into the state to cause trouble during the week-long congress.
The purpose of fomenting trouble in the state he noted was to give erroneous impression that the PDP is at it again with crises and violence in Anambra state, an attempt he claimed would be tantamount to calling a dog a bad name just to hang it.
The chairmanship candidate in the party’s congress also alleged that the money bags and their collaborators were planning to physically attack him and Metuh over the roles they played during the election of the deputy senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
Prince Emeakayi urged the security organizations and indeed all Nigerians to know that there is no crisis whatsoever in the state PDP, but that those who believe that they must always be in Aso Rock Villa should be held responsible in the event of any chaos during the congress.
The candidate while commenting on calls in some quarters for postponement of the congress said that such calls can only emanate from unserious aspirants, who do not really mean well for the party in Anambra State.
Emeakayi who said that his aspiration to lead the party in the state is not a do-or-die affair assured all party faithful that he would run an open and transparent administration if he gets their mandate in the next Saturday state congress.
However when Senator Ngige was contacted on the phone yesterday, he simply dismissed the allegation and asked PDP and her members to look elsewhere for their political misfortunes.
He pointed out that he is in the United States of America (USA) and has remained there hence has no hands in whatever they were talking about.
