Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday, reiterated his government’s resolve to ensure total compliance with the traffic laws of the state, saying that the laws are put in place to ensure easy movement of people in and around the city without any hindrance.
The Governor represented by his deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule said this at the commissioning of a multi-storey car park complex of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos. He noted that it is when there is strict compliance with relevant laws, especially the laws on traffic management that the economic prosperity and infrastructural development programme of the state can be achieved.
“Given the importance of an efficient and effective transport management system to the continuous growth of our economy, I would like to use this opportunity to appeal to all Lagosians to abide by the state traffic laws, and not be a clog in the wheel of progress of the state”, the governor stated.
While praising Ikoyi club 1938 for deeming it fit to construct a modern car park for their use, the Governor enjoined other social and corporate organizations in the state to emulate the Club by providing adequate car park facilities for their members and visitors to their various premises, assuring that the present administration in the state will fulfill its campaign promises of continuous provision of road infrastructures and efficient drainage system to reduce the incidence of flooding.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Major-General Mufutau Balogun (rtd) informed the gathering that the construction of the car park is in fulfillment of a 10years dream, which successive leadership of the club had, noting that embarking on such projects is in line with the Club’s vision of making their members and visitors to the club more comfortable.
The Chairman added that due to the various challenges the project suffered in the course of the construction, members and visitors to the Club were parking on the road leading to the club and other adjoining streets, which he noted was not only causing traffic congestion and inconveniences for other road users but also a gross violation of the State Traffic Laws.
He expressed his gladness that the multi-storey car park is now completed and commissioned, adding that the usual traffic snarl around the club and environs will be greatly reduced.
The multi-storey car-park, which can accommodate about 250 cars on 4floors and 9 parking areas, is fitted with modern features such as Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV), elevators, lounge for drivers and other amenities.
Highlight of the event was the dedication of the commemorative plague and commissioning of the car park by the Deputy Governor.
