Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has said his administration has placed the state on a path of sustainable growth, citing numerous completed and ongoing developmental projects across sectors.
Governor Adeleke made the remarks on Monday while receiving members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts at the Government House in Osogbo.
According to him, his administration has not only completed several abandoned projects left by previous governments but has also initiated and executed several new initiatives across health, education, sports, ICT, agriculture, infrastructure, financial inclusion, and business development.
“We have placed Osun on the path of sustainable growth and development for the direct benefit of our people,” Adeleke said.
He further highlighted the administration’s efforts to clear inherited salary arrears and pension debts, implement local content policies, and engage Osun contractors, suppliers, and laborers to boost the state economy. “We ensure that Osun money serves the Osun people. We stopped capital flight and strengthened cash flow within the state,” he added.
Adeleke also stressed the importance of free and fair elections as a foundation for sustaining democracy, particularly ahead of the August 15 governorship election. “Credible elections are not optional but compulsory to safeguard our democratic system. The best way to protect democracy is to ensure that votes count and that the people’s will prevails,” he said.
He described the upcoming poll as a critical phase in national democratic evolution, noting that Osun is in the spotlight as the last major election before the 2027 general elections. “We must get it right by enforcing free and fair polls,” Adeleke added.
The governor expressed confidence in his performance and governance approach, saying he is optimistic about returning to the electorate for a second term. “As a democrat, I am forever submissive to the will of the Osun people. We must respect the people and never take them for granted. The votes must count, and the people will defend their votes,” he emphasized.
Adeleke also highlighted the role of the National Assembly in reinforcing democracy through oversight and enforcement of laws. “It is not enough to make laws; we must ensure they are implemented to uphold the will of the people, whether in Osun or at the 2027 general election,” he concluded.
