Abiodun approves weekly day off, N10,000 transport allowance for Ogun workers

MSME Development: Ogun Enterprise Development Agency Commences Operations

Dapo Abiodun, Ogun State governor

Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a one-day weekly off-duty arrangement and a ₦10,000 transport allowance for public servants in Ogun State as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel costs.

The intervention, which will last for three months from April 2026, is aimed at easing the burden on workers following the hike in the pump price of fuel and its effect on transportation and living costs.

In a statement, the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, said the initiative is designed to provide relief to workers facing increasing commuting challenges, while also boosting morale and productivity.

He explained that essential workers—including medical personnel, judicial staff, teaching and non-teaching staff in schools, security personnel, accounting officers, heads of departments, and officers on special duties requiring physical presence—are exempted from the weekly day off. However, they will still benefit from the ₦10,000 transport allowance.

Onasanya noted that accounting officers in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will determine the specific day off for eligible workers in a way that does not disrupt service delivery.

He commended the governor for what he described as a timely and thoughtful intervention, adding that the measure reflects the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.

The Head of Service urged public servants to reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating greater dedication, discipline and improved service delivery in their duties.
